You're never really prepared for something like this no matter how imminent it is. It's incredibly difficult to see someone you love leave. It's equally difficult to see the ones you love who are left behind and hurting so much.

The family certainly won't be the same without him.

I'm sad that Mila will not get to know her grandpa, but I will take great joy in telling her all about him. I'll tell her about his awesome hand gestures (Italian-style), his instant hit nick-names, his many one-liners and above all his strength.

He is greatly missed but certainly not forgotten.

There will be a funeral mass at Holy Family in Kirkland on Tuesday, November 29th at 11 AM.

I remeber him coming to parent teacher conferences.

Pizzuto Family -
The Despards are amazing fans of Lauro for many reasons. We were notified of his passing through our relationships with ECHS and will miss him. Personally he was my varsity soccer coach for all four years of high school and was my varsity football kicking coach my senior year. He was a mentor, a guide and laid a great foundation for how I have pursued my life into adulthood. He will be missed by our family. On behalf of ECHS soccer class of 94 - "No Jive".

We just saw him a couple of weeks ago! Looked great! Always smiling! Dino and Lucas had wonderful years with him at ICS. Both are fluent in Spanish! Lucas is teaching English in Murcia, Spain. Dino lives in San Francisco. They will miss him also.

My sincerest condolences to your family. Lauro (aptly called Señor) was my all-time favorite teacher, ever. He made Spanish, and learning, such a joy and a treat - the only time I ever felt like I learned something from a language class. I'm saddened to hear of his passing, but will forever have the best memories of him to hold on to. Long live Señor Pizzuto!

We send our sincerest condolences. Senor Pizzuto was our all-time favorite teacher. He really touched us as only someone so special can. It's been years since Kyle graduated from ICS, but Senor always held a special place in our hearts. He will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the Pizzuto's--I can't tell you how many great memories I have of Lauro, and how I'll always be amazed at how huge his heart was. He was a great man and had such a positive effect on those around him. He will be missed, but always remembered.

My deepest and sincerest condolensces to the Pizzuto family. Señor was such an important part of our time at ICS and I fondly remember his Spanish classes as if it were just yesterday. He never stopped smiling and his laugh was contagious. RIP, Señor--your family and friends will never forget you.

Senor,
You will be missed. Even though it has been many years since I have seen the Senor, I have only the fondest of memories. He was an amazing teacher and like many others have said, made learning fun. I remember playing spanish scrabble, doing word searches and making ridiculous videos for class (including a terrible spanish version of Scream). I remember him slapping his hands together saying "the meat and potatoes" when trying to emphasize the verbs. He was a wonderful teacher & person and will be missed. My thoughts are with his family. Thank you Senor.

The Senor...what a legend.
I have so many great memories with the Senor! His one liners were amazing...they instantly became hits and I would hear them echoing through the halls. Almost ten years later, I still hear them. The ICS crew still uses the one-liners, my family, myself....and even some of my friends who have never even met the Senor- its contagious!
I love how well he knew each and every one of his students...and he never had a problem calling anyone out- I swear he had a 3rd eye for our ruckus...we thought we were so clever with our pranks, maybe he was just really, really good at reading us. :) He had a keen eye and a great sense of humor. And a huge heart. He genuinely cared about each and every person in his life...it was obvious through the way he reached out to people and the way he talked about people with a big smile! And the way he was loved so much by everyone in return...how could you not love the Senor.
I will always be so grateful that the Senor was a part of my life. He will be greatly missed. He may be gone physically but his spirIt certainly lives on through each and everyone that he touched.... :)

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Like many others, I had the pleasure of having Senor as a Spanish teacher at ICS--some of my fondest memories at ICS are from Spanish class and making los videos (especialmente Los Superamigos!). His energy and enthusiasm for learning was contagious. I am so thankful for the opportunity he gave us in volunteering with elementary ESL students--what a wonderful idea that was--it was such a great experience for us and the kids. Senor will be deeply missed.

My heart goes out to Senor's family; he was such an engaging, passionate and iconic teacher at ICS, and he had quite a knack for catching anyone who wasn't paying attention. He'd constantly change things up to keep the class engaged... his legendary video projects, the team competitions at the whiteboard.... I'll always remember his infectious smile, his wit, and his high spirits. Gracias, Senor.

The Talmud (a compilation of Jewish law) teaches 'Whoever teaches his son teaches not only his son but his son's son, and so on to the end of generations'.
Lauro was a wonderful teacher to us all - his family, his students and colleagues, his friends and all who knew him. Generations will benefit from the enthusiasm and love he gave so freely.

To the Pizutto family- how you must miss Lauro who filled every room he entered with joy. He was always kind to me and I remember the deep affection his students had for him. It's hard to imagine the world without him. Comfort to you all.

My thought and prayers go out to all of the Pizzuto's. Lauro was an inspiration to everyone he met. I fondly remember talking soccer, politics and religion with him, as well as learning from him how to really play the game of baseball right. And his phenomenal teaching efforts in the Spanish classroom continue to reverberate across the world - I am in Malawi right now, teaching a number of students Spanish with the same methods and skills that Lauro so joyfully taught me. His positive energy, infectious smile and commitment to others lives on and is even at this moment reaching people across the globe. He will be dearly missed, but his memories and guidance will live forever.

That smile is what I remember; we had a great trip to Italy one year with students who loved and adored him, and that smile tells you why. He welcomed them all, loved them all, cared for them all. These are not rare gifts; all of us have the capcity for love and caring, but they are sometimes hidden away. Not so with Lauro.
We can count ourselves lucky to have spent this time with him, to have been welcomed and drawn close to him. I was lucky.

The trip I took to Italy as a parent chaperon was more enjoyable due to Mr. Pizzuto being one of the leaders! His enjoyment, just being with the students was so very obvious, he was a natural teacher and a very kind gentleman!
Mr. Pizzuto, the Senor, will be fondly remembered by the Colella family.

I am a senior this year at ICS and Senor Pizzuto was my Spanish teacher in 7th grade. It was his first year back after his stroke and he was still absolutely phenomenal. I know I am speaking for my entire class when I say that he was a truly amazing teacher that always brought joy to the classroom and to all the students. I am planning on doing an art project of his portrait to put up in the school so that he can remain there always. I will never forget him and I want to keep his spectacular smile and personality in the hallways of ICS for many years ti come.

An Italian teachinig Engish at O'Dea in the mid-70s - why not? I remember Mr. Pizzuto assigning "The Tale of the Gengi" (in translation) - now that was cool. That's about all I remember, other than his passion, but he did touch me and I am sorry he is now gone from the lives of which he was still very much a part. Ciao.

I had the pleasure of coaching against Lauro when he was at Shoreline Community College and Eastside Catholic. He was always a great competitor and excellent coach. We were also neighbors in Kirkland. Lauro was a class guy and will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, I am so sorry for his passing, but thankful to have known him.

I had the pleasure of playing for Coach Pizzuto at SCC back in 1987 and he taught me many things about the game. I am currently the Head Coach at SCC and all of us at the college were saddened to hear of his passing. He was a great coach, and we still use his "dead bugs" for abs to this day.

I too had the pleasure of playing for Coach Pizzuto in 1987 & 88. He was what I would consider my first mentor outside of my family. After the first soccer season he offered to help him coach at East Side Catholic. That was alot of fun, mostly because of the passion and expressions Lauro brought to everything he did. The dead bugs George referred to have also stood me in good stead through my many years of coaching soccer. Thanks to your family for sharing your father, husband and brother with us.
